Telemedicine/Telehealth

Telehealth, telemedicine, and related terms generally refer to the exchange of medical information from one site to another through electronic communication to improve a patient's health. With the emergence of the virus causing the disease COVID-19, there is an urgency to expand the use of technology to help people who need routine care, and keep vulnerable patients and patients with mild symptoms in their homes while maintaining access to the care they need. Limiting community spread of the virus, as well as limiting the exposure to other patients and staff members will slow viral spread.

As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic evolves, We are continually evaluating and enhancing the aspects of patient care. Coastal Internal Medicine & Geriatrics now offers secure Telemedicine (virtual) visits to:

- Patients who believe they are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms or illness. When appropriate and clinically indicated, patients are referred to designated drive-thru sites for testing.

- Patients seeking regular follow-up appointments in the areas of primary care.

For patients seeking care related to Coronavirus (COVID-19), during your Telemedicine (virtual) visit you will speak with the doctor about your symptoms, potential exposure, guidance on treatment, and next steps. You should consider a Telemedicine (virtual) visit if you have fever (temperature > 100.4), or cough, or shortness of breath, or you think you may have contacted a person having these symptoms.

Do not enter office if you suspect COVID-19 exposure. For the safety of other patients and our providers, do not come directly to our office if you are exhibiting potential COVID-19 symptoms or believe you may have been exposed. Instead, please call 843-466-8000 for direction on seeking care.

All Telemedicine (virtual) visit appointments are scheduled by contacting our office at 843-466-8000.
